Andrew Moddrell

FOUNDING PARTNER

Andrew Moddrell is a Founding Partner at PORT, where he leads the firm’s public realm, planning, and urban design projects. His projects reflect a diverse range of scales and contexts, unified by a commitment to creating socially vibrant public spaces that integrate culture and community-driven strategies.

In addition to leading PORT, Andrew teaches Urban Design and Advanced Studios as an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Design. Prior to his current role, he was the Eliel Saarinen Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Architecture, and an Adjunct Professor and Research Associate at the Illinois Institute of Technology where he contributed to urban design research funded by the National Science Foundation.

Andrew holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University, where he was awarded the H.I. Feldman Prize for Design Excellence. He also earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kansas, receiving the Thayer Medal for Design Excellence. His professional achievements include serving on the National Endowment for the Arts’ advisory panel for the inaugural “Our Town” initiative, as well as winning multiple national and international design competition awards, including first-place honors in the Denver City Park Re-Imagine Play Competition.
