Sean McKay

ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL

Sean McKay is an Associate Principal at PORT, where he leads the design and implementation of public realm and landscape architecture projects. With over a decade of professional experience, Sean has managed the development of urban parks, trail systems, and resilient waterfronts, overseeing multidisciplinary teams through all project phases. His leadership has been integral to PORT’s large-scale park initiatives, including the Urban Wilderness Gateway Park in Tennessee and various transformative projects across the Midwest and East Coast.

Before joining PORT, Sean worked as a Landscape Architect at Altamanu, Inc., where he led award-winning urban design and public space projects throughout the Chicago area. He also contributed to cutting-edge design research during his tenure at Kieran Timberlake and as a Research Fellow with the Landscape Architecture Foundation’s Case Study Investigation program. His academic background includes teaching assistant roles at the University of Pennsylvania, where he supported advanced design studios exploring urban resilience and ecological design.

Sean holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Laurie D. Olin Prize for excellence in the design of urban landscapes. He also holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a minor in Environmental Fellows Studies from the University of Illinois. His professional accolades include multiple Honor and Merit Awards from the ASLA and AIA, recognizing his leadership in the design of complex public landscapes and urban infrastructure.
